Glide your 808's in Ableton Live

Gliding your 808 in Ableton certainly isn't rocket science, but there are a few things you'll want to iron out in your settings first before putting the sauce on your newest club smash.

There are TWO stock instruments that you can use to get this effect in Ableton Live. Simpler is where you'll want to start, and the easiest to wrap your head around at first. Sampler offers more ways to modify your sound making it quite a bit more versatile but these extra features might be a bit intimidating at first. I will go over how to get solid glide effects from both of these instruments.

EQ Technique: Notch Filtering

One of the most important steps in the mixing process is Equalization. This is where you're going to trim the fat from your sounds and eliminate frequencies that are displeasing to the ears. Not only will this allow for more headroom in your mix, it also allows you to sit elements where you want them in the song.

Often times producers will battle with a sound they like, turning it up and turning it down trying to find a sweetspot when overall GAIN of the sound isn't the issue. The real trouble is coming from a few resonating frequencies that are already too loud, preventing the sound from sitting at the proper gain in the mix. You can resolve these issues easily by Notch Filtering....

MELANINA EP!

Most recently I had the pleasure of working on a new project with producer / DJ Troy Sylvia entitled 'Melanina'. Its a body of work i'm very proud to be a part of. Troy reached out to me through instagram after seeing some of my tutorial videos and suggested we meet up to exchange ideas. Shortly after our first meeting he brought me on board to help finish up his project and within 1 week booked me a ticket to Rio De Janeiro for a string of DJ sets he had lined up in March during Carnaval. Talk about incentive...
